Enjoy nature and culture to the fullest
Our Bed & Breakfast is located in a scenic area exactly between Groenlo and Winterswijk, both less than 5 km away. In these cities you will find plenty of cultural opportunities.
It is also very diverse in terms of nature and you can walk or cycle to your heart’s content.
Groenlo
Groenlo is a “vestingstad” (walled-city) located in the eastern part of the Achterhoek, which forms part of the land border with Germany. The border is nearby and you can drive from the Netherlands to Germany without even realising it, whether by car or by bicycle. Along the country border you will find many beautiful walking and cycling areas.
Landscape
What still amazes us is the landscape. The countryside is not as flat or straight as the west of the Netherlands. The country roads are winding with old oak canopies and the meadows are hilly with endless fields of corn, potatoes and other vegetables. Forests, fields and creeks provide varying scenery to enjoy.
Walking
The surroundings are ideally made for going out into nature. Enjoying the peace and the sun rays on your face and the beautiful views that the landscape offers. An enchanting forest area is the Bekendelle, known for its special stream valley, and Slinge, where with a bit of luck you can see a kingfisher. Or take a walk through the Korenburgerveen - here you can wander through a historic area with forests, hedgerows, streams and raised bogs. In the spring the Common Crane as well as herons and egrets may come here to breed. In addition to these areas, there are even more unique places to discover.
Biking
The area is not only suitable for walks, but you can also explore endless cycling routes, to friendly villages or through nature. Whether just a casual cyclist or mountain biking or road racing enthusiast, within a radius of just a few kilometres you already have cycling junctions for different routes. The bed & breakfast has two bicycles for rent and you can inquire with us about the opportunities.
The Achterhoek
Beautiful castles and estates are scattered throughout the Achterhoek landscape. Here you can immerse yourself in the history and beauty of the past. There are Kasteel Ruurlo, Kasteel Slangenburg or Kasteel Huis Bergh all within an easy drive. You will also find historic “Hanzesteden” (merchant trading cities from the Middle Ages) such as Zutphen or Doesburg nearby. When you walk through the medieval streets there, you feel like you are going back in time.
